Firefly Brigade-Philippines is a non-governmental organization whose envisions a world where bicycling and sustainable transportation are a way of life.
Now on its 20th year, the Tour of the Fireflies by the Firefly Brigade Philippines is an epic critical mass ride around Metro Manila attracting thousands of cyclists from all walks of life. Key cities in the Philippines organize their own critical mass rides in support of the cause.
I've been participating in this event by the Firefly Brigade Philippines since 2012. As a cyclist and an advocate for safer roads for cyclists, I support the organizers in this cause. There is safety in numbers and visibility is the key to be heard.
Tour of the Fireflies attracts cyclists from all walks of life. Even persons with disabilities are encouraged to participate. Their presence all the more make the goal of this relevant. The safety of all participants is important. So is the message that the roads are meant for everyone, and not just for car-owners or the privileged.
